POSITION:​​NNADAP ADDICTIONS COUNSELLOR
PROGRAM:​​COMMUNITY WELLNESS
DEPARTMENT:​SADDLE LAKE HEALTH CARE CENTRE
LOCATION:​​EAGLE HEALING LODGE

JOB SUMMARY:
The NNADAP Addictions Counsellor shall work as a team member to implement programs supportive of the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of the Saddle Lake Cree Nation community members affected by alcohol, chemical and other process addiction
BASIC ABILITIES:
• Ability to do one on one, family, and group counselling with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the addictions process.
• Ability to recognize and respond to alcohol and drug abuse and to implement alcohol and drug pre-treatment, treatment, and post-treatment plan.
• Identify and apply the appropriate assessment forms of clients.
• Facilitate group work and speak effectively to deliver public education.
• Knowledge of support groups such as; AA, NA, GA, Al-anon, Ala-teen, ACOA, CODA, and provide ongoing assistance.
• Adhere to the Canadian Code of Ethics and Principles, Band Policy and Health Centre Organizational Structure Protocol.
• Assist in the design of programs to address the needs of the Saddle Lake residents.
• Work as a team member with programs of Eagle Healing Lodge and community.
• Ability to relate well with public.
• Ability to coordinate and maintain filing system.
• Ability to work with little or no supervision.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with the client(s) to determine a mutually agreeable treatment plan by use of:
➢ Assessment of needs with appropriate referrals.
➢ Outpatient and/or inpatient treatment.
➢ Follow-up and after care plan.
• Manage a caseload of clients.
• Assist client to cope with or overcome personal and social problems by working toward client’s self-understanding, self-development and self-direction.
• Transport clients to and from inpatient and outpatient treatment and detoxification centres when other means of transport is not available.
• Prepare and maintain client records with required forms, case notes and summary.
• Organize client case management meetings and client case conferences.
• Prepare report on monthly / yearly activities / and maintain CBRT’s.
• Prepare proposals with budget preparation.
• Collection of statistics and use of Community Based Reporting (CBR).
• Weekly / monthly home visits.
• Assist in preparing and delivering annual NNADAP work plan.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Develop s Self Care Plan and Personal Development Plan with Program Manager.
• Attend courses and training to keep updated on addictions related material.
• Submit a Professional development Plan in accordance to improvement of skills related to position.
• Other duties as required and/or directed by Supervisor.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
• Knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and protocol.
• Be a positive role model for clients, staff and community.
• Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interaction, at all times.
• Maintain accurate files and take measure to ensure their privacy.
• Other duties, relevant to the position, may be assigned as required.
• Good oral, reading and writing skills.
• Good computer skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Alcohol and drug free lifestyle is mandatory – minimum of 2 years.
• Ability to communicate in both Cree and English.
• Minimum of Grade 12 and /or certificate in Addictions Counselling.
• Previous experience considered an asset.
• Criminal and CWIS check.
• Have a valid driver’s license.
• Own or have access to vehicle.

SALARY:

• Will consummate with qualifications and experience.
